New Year, New Lists

Happy New Year to everyone that has followed along with this crazy blog!  I am humbled that you take the time to visit The Compound.

Another year has come and gone.  I’m happy to say goodbye to 2012, and am hopeful 2013 will be a better year.  Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t changed my opinion on our country’s financial standing.  I’m hoping for a better personal year.  We had some major setbacks last year, that don’t need repeating.

At the end of each year I look back at our annual “Must Have and Wish List” to see what we’ve accomplished along the way.  I think we did pretty well, all things considered, with only a few exceptions.  Then I try to lay out a plan for the coming year.

I’m not sure if I still have a holiday hangover of sorts, but I’m having a hard time coming up with an extensive list.  Is it because we’ve accomplished so much already?  Or subconsciously I don’t want a big list as I’m still tired from 2012?

Anywho, here’s what I have for 2013;

Must Have List

Finish the pump house and reverse osmosis system
Purchase and plant additional blueberry plants

Purchase and plant additional asparagus plants
Build a couple of raised beds; garlic, peas, lettuce, etc

Install chicken wire on the chicken run wall, between the two areas.  Then we’ll be ready for chicks.
Hatch out more chicks

Finish the exterior of the outdoor pizza oven
Become efficient cooking outdoors; dutch oven, outdoor pizza oven, etc

Continue with archery and weapons training

Wish List

Purchase another shipping container
Build an enclosure for ducks, and get ducks

Learn how to capture and process wild hogs
Dock railing

Try out aquaculture using our Tilapia pond

Now that I look at the list, it doesn’t seem too bad..  What are your major goals for 2013?

  1. Izzy,

Your must have, and wish lists don't seem too bad at all. I've not created a 2013 goal list as of yet, I've been dealing with my Dad's medical situation. Hopefully, in the next week or so I will sit down with Bulldog Man (hubby) and we will create our goals.

    1. Sandy,

I'll keep you and your Dad in my prayers. I think he's a more important goal for the time being anyway.

  2. I don't make new years list as our list is always ongoing. We have the bathroom done with the exception of some little things like a mirror and towel racks etc. We will be finishing up the little things from other projects that never seem to get finished at the end of a project (like the rest of the trim getting painted and shelves on one end of the bedroom closet, etc.) Our biggest project is to replace the deck that was rotting when we bought this house. If we get that done I can start renting out the apartment over the garage to summer people. Would be nice to have that income. My new years thing to do every year is to learn to cook or prepare something new. One year is was new soups another it was new salads, bread, bean recipes were last year. This year I will be expanding on vegetable preparations. Learning to use vegis that I have not used before like pac choi. I've already started with swiss chard. Hopy you have a great year.
