Trouble Sleeping

Is it just my age, or old age in general?  I'm having issues sleeping through the night.  This is the second night in less than a week, where I'm up and weird hours and it either takes me hours to fall back asleep, or I just don't.

So, I tip toed out of bed and headed for the office.  Got a few emails out the chute this morning (O' Dark Early), followed up on some of your blog posts, and will hit the Bible in a few.

Now, I'll need a nap this afternoon!  I am getting old!

  1. No telling. I've been an insomniac for more than thirty years. Never found anything that really helped, except drinking Nyquil before bed and that's not good for you.

    1. It tastes nasty too! Not sure what's up, but when I get up, I'm up. I can not fall back asleep.

  2. I was up at 130 and 445 to put wood in the furnace since it is 14 F and noticed your comment came in in the early hours. They would just give you pills if you went to a doctor but there are probably other things to do that might help like some kind of exercise program.

    1. This happens to me from time to time, but more noticeable and more often as I get older. No, I don't want to take any pills. I'd rather take a nap in the afternoon to catch up if I need to.

  3. I don't have problems going to sleep, I have problems staying asleep. Mom gave me some Melatonin and it really works. It's a natural hormone just like your body produces for your sleep and wake cycle. Will not cause you to be hung over or drowsy the next morning. I don't take it every night. If I wake up way before it is time for me to get up a couple of nights in a row, I will take a tablet that night.

    I refuse to be old...hahahaha

    1. I seem to have both issues, either I fall asleep right away and wake up way too early, or I can't seem to fall asleep and feel overtired when I do wake up. Just can't win. I'll stop complaining now.

  4. Izzy,

I think it has something to do with getting older, I have the same issue.

They say drinking cherry juice helps with getting to sleep. I've picked up a bottle, and will try it over the weekend.

  5. We have the same problem anywhere from 2:30 - 4:30. We unfortunately turn the TV on, usually to MeTV (Gilligan, Leave it to Beaver, etc.) Sometimes fall back to sleep just when It's time to get up. There are days I wake up & the first thing I thing about is a nap!

  6. I'm haunted by the lack of sleep. It's been an endless battle of which I'm very much on the losing end. Wish I had an answer...age, maybe. But then again many of us classified as genius live on four hours or less a night....

    1. So the next time someone asks why I have dark circles or bags under my eyes I'm going to reply; "genius at work".

  7. I had that problem too until my doctor notice my thyroid was not performing up to par. Perhaps you should have that checked.
