It Begins....

By now, you know the Moose and R (Ron) picked up some not so free light poles. We have plans to use them to move a 40’ container into a shallow hole and bury the remaining with at least 2’ of dirt. This will give us a place to store items and keep them relatively cool. I promise to keep you posted as we progress. This is one of the bigger projects we’ve undertaken at The Compound. So, the next endeavor is to dig a hole. Donnie, the Moose and I started this past Saturday. We staked out the area, 12’ x 44’, which will give us 2 feet on all sides of the container. We may end up needing more, but for now, we have to start somewhere.

  1. Wow, you have a serious job ahead of you! To bad you didn't have access to a front end loader or scoop thingie..it would make short work of all that digging!

    1. I agree, we could have rented one, but it's $500 for the day. Seemed a bit steep. We're not in a hurry, and if we take it as small chunks, before long it will be done.

    2. $500 a day sounds pretty much like the going rate. Be careful of collapse, it is one of the more common work place casualties. People underestimate the weight of soil. If it collapses on you, you likely will suffocate before someone can dig you out.

  2. Izzy,

No one in the local area has a friend or neighbor with a front end loader to borrow or bribe oops I mean barter with for some beer, pizza or dinner?

    1. They all want to collect a fee. Times are tough for these guys, with little construction work to do, so they want cash. I can't blame them.
