Earlier this year I made a resolution of sorts to try my hand at some "old school" home-ec projects. I took up sewing, knitting, crocheting and canning. I'm better at some than others; crocheting over knitting. Knitting takes too long as far as I can tell, and I'm not very patient. It also bothers my hands more, as I've developed carpal tunnel over the years.
Part of my resolution was not only to learn the basics of these skills, but use them. I decided to try and make home made gifts this Christmas for my family. That may mean someone ends up with a jar of pickles, but they'll get something.
I wanted to share with you a small project I did for Daughter #2's dog Winston. I couldn't wait to see it on him this past holiday weekend, and figured he would get better use out of it this next month through the holiday season. Let me know what you think. The buttons are actually jingle bells.
Oh, what a cutie pie. Love the 2nd picture & the doggie scarf too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, he is adorable. Good thing, he's so cute, he's a handful! All puppy!
DeleteI love it! You inspired me. I need to make a coat for little dog. They had to cut her hair short because of some mats..and it's COLD up here. I love the jingle bells.
ReplyDeleteI wish I were far enough along to make a little dog coat too. Winston would look really handsome in one of those! Maybe in time. The jingle bells were a random find. Down at the bottom of my sewing kit ringing. I thought, those might work, and they did! Now you can hear him coming!
DeleteWow that dog looks almost real! And with a cute scarf too! I had not idea such realism was possible with crocheting.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Believe me he's real! Just ask the broken lamp from this past weekend!
DeleteCongrats on your home-ec resolution! Your doggy scarf is super cute -- did you make it up or follow a pattern? My daughter loves all things for animals, so I'd like to share this idea with her if you'd be willing to share your method. We did crochet a doggy sweater (found a pattern on the Red Heart yarn website) earlier this year, but never heard of a doggy scarf. The bells are a great addition. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, ~Lisa
No pattern, just made it up. I used Miss Izzy our dog as a runway model, to see how things were progressing. Just the standard most basic stitches. Chain than double stitches until I finished. Nothing out of this world, but on him it worked out really well. I'm sure your daughter could out crochet me anyday! Copy away!
